THE AUTHORS

 

ROMAN BRINZANIK

Roman Brinzanikborn in 1969 in Czechoslovakia, is a physicist and bioinformatician. Besides scientific research he conducts projects interfacing science, society and art. He studied physics and philosophy in Frankfurt am Main and in Berlin. After his doctoral thesis in the field of complex systems and nano-physics, he switched his focus to Computational Biology and worked at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. Currently, he is at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin and is researching in the field of Systems Biology. He published the interview collection Werden wir ewig leben? – Gespräche über die Zukunft von Mensch und Technologie (Will We Live Forever? - Conversations About the Future of Man and Technology) (edition unseld, Suhrkamp, 2010). This book deals with the present and future of bio-, nano-, info- and neuro-sciences as well as with the scientific and technological manipulation of human nature and was translated into Czech (Kniha Zlin 2012) and Turkish (Iletisim 2012). Further translations are planned. The follow-up volume, Werden wir die Erde retten? – Gespräche über die Zukunft von Technologie und Planet (Will We Save the Earth? - Conversations about the Future of Technology and the Planet) will be published in summer 2013. Amongst other projects Roman Brinzanik devises, organizes, and moderates the participatory and cross-media discourse series ScienceGalleryTalks (Max Planck Society and Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences, Berlin) as well as Pointing Science (Körber Foundation, Hamburg).

TOBIAS HÜLSWITT

Tobias Hülswittwas born in 1973 in Hannover and raised in the Southern Pfalz. After several years working as a stonemason, he took up studies at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig and since 2000 has worked as a freelance author. He has held lecturer posts at the University of the Arts Berlin and the Art Academy in Munich. In 2007 he was an artist fellow at the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles. This residency was the origin of the book Werden wir ewig leben? – Gespräche über die Zukunft von Mensch und Technologie, (Will We Live Forever? - Conversations About the Future of Man and Technology) (edition unseld, Suhrkamp 2010), produced together with Roman Brinzanik. More recent publications include Dinge bei Licht, stories, Kiepenheuer & Witsch 2008, and Handbuch des Nonlinearen Erzählens, Edition Paechterhaus 2010. In 2008, together with media artist Florian Thalhofer, he founded the Korsakow Institute for Nonlinear Narration, where he served until 2010. He conceived and hosted the participatory discourse series Hilfe, Freiheit! at the Munich Kammerspiele (with Florian Thalhofer and Björn Bicker), and Woran glaubst du, Europa? at the Goethe-Institute Prague (together with Angelika Edel). He is currently a visiting professor at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig.

 


 

GUNTHER KREIS

Gunther Kreisborn in 1972, has been active as a freelance director, cinematographer and editor in Berlin since 2003. Apart from his work on various documentaries for Arte, ARD and ZDF Kultur, he produced the Korsakow Shows Werden wir ewig leben? and Werden wir die Erde retten? together with Roman Brinzanik and Tobias Hülswitt since 2009. He studied at the Academy of Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg, where he is now a guest lecturer.
